Amazon.com Product Description
Get your hands dirty in the early stages of the epic battle between UNSC and Covenant. Developed by Ensemble Studios, Halo Wars for Xbox 360 brings all the drama of a real-time strategy game to the popular Halo Universe. Set in the year 2531, before the initial Halo first-person shooter game, this game lets you control the human armies of UNSC in a whole new way.

Experience the Epic Battle from a New Perspective
Defense, offense, and the ability to hold down a command center in the face of hostile attacks: there's a lot to think about when laying out tactics for an all-out alien war. Featuring detailed environments and complicated new battle mechanisms, this game demands a different kind of perspective than the first-person shooters from the original Halo series. You'll need to uncover the hidden strengths and weaknesses of each unit and play them to your tactical advantage, and that's just the beginning.

UNSC: Be Part of a Legendary Conflict
The story opens with UNSC forces retaking the planet Harvest from the Covenant. At your disposal -- should you choose to take command of UNSC forces -- will be everything from a corps of highly-trained Marines to the Warthogs, Scorpions, and Hornets you'll need for air and land attacks.

You'll take stock of the map and decide between holding your ground or advancing on enemy strongholds, all while trying to navigate the local terrain and outsmart Covenant forces. And when you need something extra to tip the tide in your favor, UNSC leaders can provide you with the ability to mobilize highly specialized units or call the Spirit of Fire vessel for support from above.

Covenant: A Capable, Playable Enemy Faction
That's right, Covenant is playable in this corner of the Halo universe. This alliance of alien species has manipulated advanced technology, firepower, and tactical prowess into a powerful force that is engaged in a Genocidal war against human race, having branded humans as heretics.

With the ability to play as these tough, alien fighters, you'll have advanced shield technology, the modular Citadel at the heart of Covenant's colonizing power, and, of course, the iconic Scarab attack vehicle at your disposal, adding a whole new dimension to your strategic warfare.

The Scarab is a terrifying military vehicle crafted from heavy mining equipment. And with a mining laser that delivers massive damage across battlefields large and small, turrets for taking on air attacks, and the ability to clamber over any terrain, what's not to love about commanding Scarabs instead of fighting against them?

Developed Exclusively for Xbox 360
Most console RTS games are adapted from existing PC games, which can make their controls bulky or awkward, but Halo Wars has been developed for Xbox 360 from the ground up.

This means the controls are sensitive, intuitive, and easy-to-operate in the midst of battle. And the UI is just as intuitive, so whether you're managing a unit of marines or a deadly machine, you can focus on creating a battle strategy instead of worrying about how to overcome a clumsy controller.

No matter which faction you choose to play as, you can test your skills against those of other players in online skirmishes that allow up to six players with the New Xbox Experience through Xbox LIVE.

From the Manufacturer

Take Control of the Halo Universe. The Year is 2531, twenty years prior to the events in Halo®: Combat Evolved and the Covenant have found something on the planet Harvest. The UNSC ship “Spirit of Fire” is sent to investigate and stop whatever the enemy is up to. What the crew finds could be the only thing that stands between humanity and certain annihilation by the Covenant.

Command large armies, lead them into battle, control their every move and use their abilities to gain the upper hand in combat. Your strategy is infinite.

Customer Reviews

if you're a halo fan... this is a must.
before i get started, i am obviously a big halo and bungie fan. i have played all of the halo series, read the halo books, and the marathon series (during my Performa days), myth series and Oni.

i don't play that much rts games such as starcraft, but i picked this up because i love the halo series. all in all, halo wars is a very well executed game... it's such a new and invigorating experience because for halo fans we are so used to regular first person shooting, but in halo wars we in command of every unit.

it's such a new experience and very fun experience. i would say i beat the entire campaign in normal level in about 48 hours. that's my main disappointment with the game. the controls, graphics, sounds were all very very good and top notch, i believe this game is 1080p and looked really fantastic with 5.1 digital audio.

the cinematic cut scene is extremely detailed and can pass for a big budget CG movie. great dialog and great voice acting.

however, i feel as if the game was too short due to so much cut scenes. i wish they had cut down the cut scenes and instead put more campaign levels. it only had 15 and most missions take you 30 mins to beat. the AI isn't amazing either... just build up a lot of units and move in, you'll win.

i haven't tried the online game play, but i guess this is where the lack of AI will compensate when you play with real players.

in the end, it's a great game for any halo fan. i would definitely buy the sequel, but a note to Ensemble studios: longer game play please... i would easily trade in the beautiful cut scenes for more missions.

don't change any of the controls, it's a great set up and i think it's fine, but i would suggest minor tweaks here and there.

great game Ensemble!!!

For a console RTS, HALO WARS is great!
Best console combat RTS I've played on an Xbox system to date! Very satisfied with the look and feel of the missions & cut-scenes. A very reasonable prequel to the original "HALO: CE".

Beats C&C Red Alert console titles hands-down on controls, almost has that fluid PC feel to it. Definately worth buying or renting at least once. I tried the Xbox LIVE Demo, loved it and had to buy my copy the next day. It's a small to medium battle scale RTS, but completely channels the soul of the HALO FPS series.

Well done RTS for the console
Halo Wars is a truly fantastic RTS game for the console. I've been wanting to play an RTS game for a while since StarCraft and Warcraft3. While I haven't been a big fan of Age of Empires, I did enjoy Age of Mythology on the PC. I was happy to hear that Ensemble Studios was going to be doing Halo Wars and they would make sure everything worked as it should on a console.

The game is fast paced and there are enough units to keep things entertaining. Each unit has a purpose and has advantages over other types of units. The population limit is pretty low (50, i think) but it doesn't detract from the action within the game. In fact, you'll need to scout regularly to gather intel on what the enemy has so that you can make sure that your units can properly defend (or attack).

There is no resource gathering like in other RTS games, in the traditional sense at least. By that, I mean there is no dedicated unit to gather materials such as vespene gas or gold. However, there are two types of resources: Reactors and Supply Depots.

The supply depos generates the resource for building units, while the number of reactors enables strong units and more advanced buildings to be created. Because each base has a limited amount of 'slots' for each building, you'll find yourself trying to figure out which building is the most important to build next.

Do you build additional supply depots to increase your marine production? Or do you build another reactor so that you can build the vehicle producing buildings and begin pumping out vehicles? Or is the academy needed, instead?

There are a couple of shortcomings of the game. The pathfinding of the units can be frustrating at times. However, I was used to playing StarCraft and micromanaging units is a necessity at times, but it wasn't necessary most of the time in HW and it took some getting used to.

The campaign is pretty short (finished it in 3 days of casually playing) since you only get to play the UNSC and not the convenet. However, you are able to play the covenant in skirmish. Nevertheless, there's enough in the campaign to give it replay value to get the achievements, increase your medal earned, and to hunt for black boxes/skulls.

The cut scenes are beautifully done and it really adds a great deal of immersion to the game. I would have liked to seen more, but that may take away from the action.

In the end, I'm happy with Bungie has done with HW and I am looking forward to a sequel. In the meantime, this game has enough replay value until that game does arrive.

Halo Wars is a fun, action-oriented, and challenging. Anyone who isn't expecting a FPS game or a close-minded PC RTS fanatic will thoroughly enjoy this game.

Customer Reviews

Good cable
This cable also works perfectly on PS2. Cable could be a bit heavier, but works just fine.

Very good quality
This cable gives you great picture, very well made and costs less then some other HD solutions.

Nice picture quality
I purchased this so that I can play games and movies in my living room. I have a 57" widescreen "oldschool" projector that doesn't have an HDMI connection. I played video games and movies on this TV with the original connection, and compared it to this component AV connection, and there is a big difference. Its not 1080p, its 1080i, but what an improvement. It's worth it, especially since I got it for $5 from Amazon.

Customer Reviews

Buggy, laggy mess
This was a pre beta release. It should never have been released in this condition. I stopped playing it due to long load times, lag, poor features such as being unable to shoot through large spaces between objects.
To make myself feel better I think of it as purchasing a 45 dollar headset which is great and a bad 15 dollar game.

Online ONLY!?!?
Nowhere in Amazon.com's description of this game does it say it'sor online play ONLY. The game may be fun and it may not. I wouldn't know because I haven't played it yet because you CAN'T play it unless you go online and join a game with a bunch of strangers.

I bought it because I liked the PS2 version. That version let you play through the missions yourself OR play online. I would like to think that PS3 games are meant to be BETTER than their PS2 predecessors - removing features is not better.

Most Realistic Modern Warfare Shooter - EVER!
I've been playing this game for 2 months now and have found no end in the entertainment it can provide.

The game received bad reviews initially for server issues and bugs that have now been resolved. The developers are clearly committed to fixing problems, improving the game, and adding more content in the future. A poorly designed menu system is immediately apparent, but should not reflect the quality of the game itself.

Previously I played SOCOM:Combined Assault, and this game is completely redesigned, featuring smaller maps that provide for a more intimate, engaging fighting experience. The game play is truly second to none. All the press attention may go to Call of Duty 4 and 5, and those are great games, but the realism and graphic detail is nothing compared to SOCOM:Confrontation.

All the maps (Fallen, Urban Wasteland, Crossroads, Kasbah, Frostfire, Desert Glory, and Quarantine) are well designed and provide for a fair engaging competition between the two teams. This game now switches sides between Seals and Mercenaries halfway through the game to insure that any unfairness in the map is not reflected in the final score.

The new communication system allows for better communication between teammates. Each player's audio can be heard by other players (friendly and enemy) physically near them in the game, while pressing L2 will broadcast over the radio to all teammates regardless of location in the map. Playing this game without a headset is unacceptable.

The new Player Profile section allows your character to be fully customized (including Camouflage Color, Skin Color, Face, and Attire) for both Seal and Mercenary. It will also allow you to predefine your default firearms and gear.

The audio provides realistic gunfire and a dynamic soundtrack that changes based on what you are experiencing in the game.

I highly recommend this game, it should definitely be the bestselling PlayStation 3 game currently available.

Great Game!!
Age: 23 Gender: Female Occupation: Teacher/Grad Student
We got a Wii for Christmas, and I've always been a huge Mario fan, especially the original Mario games. This game brings in a lot of the old Mario, but it has a fun twist with the whole flipping into 3-D thing. There were a few parts that I've found frustrating, but were actually really easy once I figured it out. The graphics are really fun, and so are the characters.

I'm not a big video gamer, and I don't have a lot of time to spend playing, so this game is great for me. It's fun, and there are lots of opportunities to save so you can quit and come back later.

Not what i expected.
This is one time it would have paid to do some research. I bought this game unaware of the previous RPG nature of the Paper Mario series. This game actually shares quite a bit in common with Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for the DS: a central village, shops, some controls and stylistic elements, which i find a bit odd.

It's strange to play a Mario game with experience points, hit points (heart points) and so forth. It certainly isn't anything like two of my favourites: Super Mario World (SNES) and New Super Mario Brothers (DS). This is not an action game, it's a series of puzzles and dialogue. If you like puzzles, you'll love this game; if you want action, this one isn't for you.

Fabulous Mix
The game starts out with a pretty classic feel -- d-pad navigation and the 1 and 2 buttons filling the space of a and b buttons on an original nes controller. After a little time getting use to the game a few more controls are added, making game play incredibly rich.

I thought I would miss the rpg-style battles I fell in love with in Super Mario RPG, but found the combination of attack points and enemy stomping to be a great mix, especially once the concept of 'smooth moves' was introduced, making leveling up far easier.

There is an awful lot of reading. Some of it really necessary and some of it just makes the story better. My husband and daughter skipped over most of the reading by hitting the a button as fast as they could without really effecting their game play (if they thought they missed something they could just talk to a person again).

This includes some really puzzling puzzles, a fun story, great characters (both new and old), and a variety of controls. Just a fabulous combination!

Fun game
It allows you to keep increasing your "record" but some of the games are wierd. Good addition to the Wii collection.

Did not enjoy this game.
I purchased this game based on the reviews and the videos. It appeared to be fun. I found this game to be very boring and difficult to use, especially with a child that has Cerebral Palsy and limited movement in one arm and hand. Most of the games allow for use of only the Wii remote, this game requires use of both the Wii remote and the nunchuck.

This type of movement is hard enough for healthy individuals, but it is darn near impossible for people with physical limitations. I found the game instructions unclear and confusing and the challenges were not fun. Overall, I found this game a waste of money.

Tennis Elbow
I liked this game so much I gave myself tennis elbow. Beware of quick sudden repetitive hand and arm movements or you will end up like me. If you are over 40, take it easy. Have fun and ice after playing.

Constantly Crashes Our Wii
We bought this game with several others at Christmastime along with a brand new Wii console (so everything is new, nothing is old, everything should work, right?). Our son loves this game, but it randomly freezes our Wii system. There is a buzzing noise that travels through the TV speakers, and sometimes the game screen freezes or it just goes black. The only way to un-freeze the Wii is to unplug it (even the power button on the Wi won't work).

Apparently, from looking at other reviews, this is a problem with this game. Since it was the most expensive one we bought, it's extra-frustrating that it's the only one that we have had a problem with.

If the game did not freeze (and it does, with absolutely no rhyme or reason-we can play it for days with no problems, and then, suddenly, it's crashing 3-4 times in a day), we would give this a 5+ stars rating.

NHL 2K9 Wii
Great game for the game play but terrible to view any words on the screen. Very hard to read and so it makes it difficult to navigate screens sometimes. The games sometimes pauses and acts like it is going to lock up. Great game but could stand for some improvements.

NHL 2K9
Excellent game. Many options to choose from and lots of fun! A must for sports fans!

Customer Reviews

Great Coach!
I haven't played this game personally. I bought it for my 13-year-old son who is in 1st year Spanish. He says it is helpful, and likes it. Unexpectedly, my younger son, who is 11, has also started using this and seems to like it even more! I'm glad I bought it. I'd rather see them with educationsl games for their DS'S!

This is Awesome.
I am so glad that I purchased My Spanish Coach. Ive been wanting to learn Spanish for such a long time and did not want to buy one of those crazy expensive programs. I just want to know the basics.

This game is very easy to use. And they make sure you know the words before you can even advance to the next lesson, so it can get a tad repetitive.

excellent learning tool
the game is fun and you repeat the words back to the device even to correct yourself to pronounce the words right. its base off of memory, which is better for the long run. there are little cross words, hit-the-word, and even a quick multiple choice. the game is profoundly excellent for any age.
